Five people arrested and charged after police in New Minas seize drugs and weapons

NEW MINAS, N.S. — Police in New Minas, N.S., arrested five people after seizing cocaine, weapons and cash during a drug bust in the community on Tuesday, Jan. 9

A joint police investigation led to a search of a home on Kings Court where police found and seized ecstasy, methamphetamine, scales, cash and cell phones and arrested three men.

Later that night, a man and woman were arrested without incident during a targeted traffic stop where police found cocaine, brass knuckles, bear spray, scales, cash and cell phones.

Mark Harris, 49, Vince Harris, 50, and Douglas Drysdale, 49, all of New Minas, are facing two charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Halifax’s Robert Banks, 39, and Rebecca Moir, 39, of New Minas, were charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, three counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon contrary to an order.

Mark Harris and Moir were held in custody and appeared in Kentville provincial court on Jan. 10. They were released under conditions to appear again on March 26. Vince Harris, Drysdale and Banks and were also released under conditions with court dates on March 26.
