Liz Cheney fundraising off Trump, Zelenskyy Oval Office fight

Former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., is taking a stand against what she perceives as dangerous foreign policy decisions made by President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Department of Government Efficiency leader Elon Musk. In a fundraising email sent out by her group, Our Great Task, Cheney accused the trio of being “tools of the Kremlin” and criticized their actions during a recent explosive Oval Office meeting.
The email highlighted the importance of standing up for fundamental values and institutions that safeguard the Republic, particularly in the face of Putin’s aggression towards Ukraine. Cheney emphasized the historic role of NATO in ensuring freedom and security, as well as the importance of American leadership in defeating oppressive regimes like the Soviet Union.
Cheney condemned Trump’s “appeasement” tactics towards Russian President Vladimir Putin and accused him, Vance, and Musk of abandoning NATO, siding with Russia, and demanding Ukraine surrender in the face of aggression. She urged donors to support leaders who have the courage to defend democracy, the rule of law, American freedom, and the Constitution.
The email referenced a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. officials, including Trump and Vance, that ended in a heated exchange and Zelenskyy being kicked out of the White House. The meeting was supposed to involve the signing of a deal giving the U.S. access to Ukraine’s rare earth mineral deposits, but instead, it devolved into a clash over security guarantees.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick criticized Zelenskyy’s demands as “ridiculous” and not reasonable, while some Republican lawmakers expressed concern about the U.S. appearing to side with Russia in the conflict. Despite the lack of a public resolution, the meeting exposed divisions among Republicans over continued aid to Ukraine.
Cheney’s email drew attention to these divisions and called for support for leaders who are willing to defend American values and interests. While some Republicans praised Trump’s handling of the situation, others, like Cheney, voiced strong opposition to what they saw as a dangerous shift in U.S. foreign policy.
As the debate over Ukraine and Russia continues, Cheney’s fundraising efforts reflect a broader concern among some Republicans about the direction of American foreign policy under the current administration. The email serves as a call to action for those who believe in defending democracy, freedom, and the rule of law.
