Shaquille O’Neal’s son sets sights on NCAA transfer portal: report

Shaqir O’Neal, the son of basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, has made a significant decision regarding his basketball future. According to a report from On3, Shaqir is leaving Florida A&M and entering the NCAA transfer portal. This move comes after the junior forward averaged 6.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game during the 2024-25 season with the Rattlers.
If Shaqir decides to transfer, he will finish his career in Tallahassee after starting 17 of 29 games. This wouldn’t be the first time in his college basketball career that he has switched schools, as he transferred to Florida A&M after spending two years at Texas Southern.
During his time with the Tigers, Shaqir appeared in 41 games, starting in two. He was listed as a three-star high school recruit, as noted on Florida A&M’s athletics website. Basketball talent runs deep in the O’Neal family, with Shaquille O’Neal winning four NBA championships and earning 15 All-Star selections during his illustrious career. Shaqir’s brother, Shareef, also had a collegiate basketball career at UCLA and LSU before entering the NBA G League.
In 2023, Shaq’s youngest child, Me’Arah O’Neal, committed to playing for the Florida Gators. She made her debut during the 2024-25 season and had a standout performance with a career-high 19 points in a game against Arkansas in February.
The O’Neal family continues to make waves in the basketball world, with each member carving out their own path in the sport. From Shaquille’s dominance in the NBA to Shareef’s collegiate and professional journey, and now Shaqir and Me’Arah making their mark on the college basketball scene, the O’Neal legacy is one to watch.
