Los Angeles fire victims to be booted from Red Cross shelter to make space for film crews, events

The American Red Cross is facing a challenge as they search for new shelter accommodations for victims of the Los Angeles wildfires. The Pasadena Convention Center, which is currently housing around 300 people who lost their homes in the Eaton fire, has requested the removal of the victims in order to return to its normal filming schedule this week. Despite this request, the Red Cross has committed to continuing to shelter the victims until more permanent housing can be secured.

The convention center, known for hosting events like “America’s Got Talent” and the upcoming NAACP Image Awards, is set to host an event on Feb. 12, although the nature of the event remains unclear. City officials have set a target date of Feb. 8 for transferring the shelter to a new location.

This development comes on the heels of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s visit to Washington, D.C., where he sought additional disaster funding for the state. Newsom met with members of the House and Senate before meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House. Both Newsom and Trump described their discussions as productive, with a focus on working together to aid in the recovery efforts following the devastating wildfires.

In a statement following the meeting, Newsom emphasized the importance of cutting red tape to expedite recovery and rebuilding efforts in the wake of the wildfires. He expressed gratitude to President Trump for his support and collaboration in addressing the needs of those impacted by the fires.

As the situation continues to unfold, it is essential to provide ongoing support and resources to those affected by the wildfires. The efforts of organizations like the American Red Cross, in conjunction with government officials at both the state and federal levels, are crucial in ensuring the well-being and recovery of individuals and communities impacted by natural disasters.
