Halifax building demolished after overnight fire

No Injuries Reported in Halifax Building Fire

A fire broke out early Friday morning in a Halifax building that housed two apartments and several businesses. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the blaze.

Emergency crews worked tirelessly to contain the fire, which caused extensive damage to the two-storey building on Quinpool Road. As a result, the building had to be demolished, with the process starting Friday afternoon and leading to the closure of part of the street.

Even after the flames were extinguished, firefighters continued to hose down hot spots while an excavator sifted through the rubble near the intersection of Quinpool Road and Oxford Street.

District chief Brad Connors from Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency explained, “We’re going to be in the process of picking material from the pile, making sure it’s fully extinguished, loading it onto dump trucks and those kind of take [the debris] away.”

The building housed various businesses, including Naan n Curry, Quinpool Billiards, Define Hair Studio and Barbershop, and Misty Vapes on the first floor. Fortunately, all occupants were safely evacuated.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with authorities working to determine what sparked the destructive blaze.
