Hamilton police search landfill for missing woman Shalini Singh

Hamilton police are intensifying their search efforts for missing woman Shalini Singh, as investigators scour a landfill in hopes of finding her body. Singh, a 40-year-old mental health crisis worker, was last heard from on December 4th, prompting concerns from her friends and family. The homicide unit took over the case after initial information raised suspicions.
Authorities suspect that Singh may have been killed in her apartment and then disposed of through the building’s garbage disposal system. This led detectives to trace the building’s garbage to the Kenora Waste Transfer Station before ultimately focusing their search on the Glanbrook landfill.
The search at the landfill commenced on Monday and is expected to continue for several weeks as police meticulously comb through the site. Despite searching Singh’s apartment multiple times, investigators have not found any evidence related to her disappearance. They have also reviewed security footage to track her movements leading up to her disappearance, but have not found any footage of her leaving the building after December 4th.
Singh’s common-law boyfriend, who was reported missing alongside her, was located shortly after her disappearance but has been uncooperative with the investigation. Singh’s loved ones describe her as an exceptional individual with a passion for helping others. She is actively involved in the community through her work with the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Suicide Prevention Community Council of Hamilton.
At a recent vigil held in Singh’s honor, her friend Amanda Bobbitt spoke highly of her quirky personality and exceptional sense of humor. Bobbitt emphasized Singh’s kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Singh is described as five feet four inches tall, weighing 120 pounds, with brown eyes and shoulder-length black hair.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding Singh’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in the investigation. As the search for answers continues, the community remains hopeful for Singh’s safe return. In the meantime, individuals in need of support or facing family or intimate partner violence are encouraged to seek help through crisis lines and local support services.
