California woman with Alzheimer’s embarks on cross-country walk for awareness

Thirteen years after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Judy Benjamin, PhD, is defying the odds and embarking on a 3,000-mile walk across America to showcase the power of action in healthy aging. At 80 years old, Benjamin is more vibrant than ever, and she wants to inspire others to take charge of their own health and well-being.

Benjamin’s journey began in San Diego, California, on April 5, and will take her all the way to St. Augustine, Florida, over the course of five months. Despite her initial diagnosis at the age of 67, Benjamin has managed to keep her Alzheimer’s disease at bay through a combination of lifestyle changes and determination.

Having a family history of Alzheimer’s disease, Benjamin was understandably frightened when she first received the news. Her symptoms included memory loss, difficulty with directions, and struggles with simple tasks like reading and remembering names. However, with the help of Dr. Dale Bredesen, a California-based doctor specializing in Alzheimer’s research, Benjamin embarked on a journey of healing and transformation.

Dr. Bredesen’s holistic approach focused on reducing inflammation in the brain through lifestyle modifications. Benjamin made significant changes to her diet, exercise routine, sleep patterns, and stress management techniques. Over time, she began to notice improvements in her cognitive function and overall well-being.

Now, Benjamin is a national board-certified health and wellness coach, specializing in brain health and neurology. She has dedicated herself to helping others achieve similar results through healthy living practices. Benjamin’s upcoming documentary will shine a spotlight on her incredible journey and the importance of taking proactive steps towards a healthier future.
