Zelenskyy’s hometown suffers Russian attack as Ukraine pivots towards peace

Following a recent attack in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, carried out by Russia, one woman was tragically killed and multiple others were injured, as reported by Reuters and confirmed by Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Serhiy Lysak. This attack comes in the wake of Ukraine’s acceptance of a ceasefire proposal from the United States, aimed at bringing an end to the longstanding conflict.

The strategic location of the attack, in President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih, suggests a targeted message to the Ukrainian leader. This is not the first time Kryvyi Rih has faced such aggression from Russia, with previous missile strikes on March 6 resulting in four fatalities and 32 injuries.

As Ukraine shows a willingness to engage in peace talks, with recent discussions held with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia, Russia’s attack in Kryvyi Rih comes at a critical juncture in the conflict. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has expressed a strong desire for peace, stating that “Ukraine is most interested in peace.”

President Donald Trump addressed the ceasefire during a speech at the Business Roundtable meeting, acknowledging Ukraine’s commitment to peace.

“Russia has been more cooperative than Ukraine, which is unexpected. We hope to see progress with Russia. Ukraine has agreed to a full ceasefire, which is positive,” President Trump remarked.

Kremlin spokesperson Demitry Peskov indicated on Wednesday that Russia is withholding comment on the U.S.-Ukraine ceasefire proposal until more detailed information is provided. Secretary Rubio assured that the plan will be directly delivered to Russian authorities.
