Mike Rogers replacing Wray as FBI director is not happening, Trump adviser says

Former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers will not be leading the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the upcoming administration, according to a senior adviser to President-elect Donald Trump. Dan Scavino, the incoming deputy chief of staff at the White House, took to social media to confirm that Rogers will not be considered for the position. Scavino stated, “Just spoke to President Trump regarding Mike Rogers going to the FBI. It’s not happening — In his own words, ‘I have never even given it a thought.’ Not happening.”

Rogers, who recently ran as the Republican Senate nominee in Michigan and narrowly lost the election, was seen as a top candidate to replace current FBI director Christopher Wray, who Trump intends to dismiss. Despite meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago and discussing the potential role with the transition team, Rogers will not be taking on the position.

A source familiar with the situation revealed that Rogers had indeed met with Trump and his team, fueling speculation about his candidacy for FBI director. However, transition spokesman Brian Hughes refrained from commenting directly on Scavino’s post.

During an appearance on “FOX & Friends,” Rogers emphasized the need for a change in the FBI’s leadership. Having previously served as a special agent in the FBI’s Chicago office and chaired the House Intelligence Committee, Rogers brings a wealth of experience to the table.

In 2017, Rogers was interviewed for the FBI director position after James Comey was removed from office. Ultimately, Trump appointed Christopher Wray to the role, but the president has repeatedly expressed his desire to shake up the FBI’s leadership.

Kash Patel, a former aide and adviser in Trump’s administration, has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for FBI director in the new administration. Patel, known for his controversial roles at the National Security Council and Defense Department, could be another contender for the position.

Despite Scavino ruling out Rogers, the Department of Justice declined to comment on the matter. As the transition to the new administration continues, the search for a new FBI director remains ongoing.
