Impaired driving suspected in Hants County crash that killed two, injured four
Two people are dead and four others injured after a two-vehicle crash in Hants County late Thursday night that may have involved alcohol.
RCMP, firefighters and paramedics were called after a Monte Carlo and Ford F150 truck collided head-on shortly before 10:50 p.m. on Highway 14 in Windsor Forks.
Cpl. Chris Marshall said a man from Newport Station and a woman from Three Mile Plains, both 20 and passengers in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger in the car, a 22-year-old man from Three Mile Plains, and the driver, a 21-year-old Windsor man, were seriously injured.
The driver of the truck, a 53-year-old New Russell Man, and 49-year-old female passenger, also from New Russell, sustained minor injuries.
All four were taken to hospital for treatment.
Marshall said the driver of the car showed signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene.
Police made a demand for blood samples from the man while he was at hospital. Those will be sent to the RCMP for testing. The man was released from custody without being charged pending the result of the blood anaylsys.
Marshall said the scene was “chaotic” when police arrived. Firefighters were trying to locate all occupants of the vehicles and assess them.
He said everyone was outside the vehicles when police arrived, but he didn’t know yet whether any had been ejected in the crash or if they got out on their own..
The vehicles were heavily damaged in the collision, Marshall said, “There was a significant amount of debris on the scene.”
The highway in the area was closed until 8:30 a.m. Friday while investigators worked at the scene.
