12 injured in shooting at Scarborough pub, 3 suspects at large, police say

Toronto police are currently investigating a shooting that took place at a pub in Scarborough on Friday night, resulting in 12 individuals being injured. The police are on the lookout for three male suspects in connection with the incident.

Of the 12 victims, six sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, with the age range spanning from their 20s to mid-50s. The shooting occurred at around 10:40 p.m. in the vicinity of Progress Avenue and Corporate Drive, situated in the eastern region of Toronto near the Scarborough Town Centre, a popular mall close to Highway 401 and McCowan Road.

Upon receiving reports of gunfire and an active shooting inside the pub, Toronto Fire Services promptly dispatched crews to 520 Progress Ave. to address the situation. Initially, authorities believed there was a single suspect wearing a black balaclava who fled the scene in a silver car. However, an updated statement revealed that three male suspects entered the pub and opened fire.

Initially, Toronto paramedics reported 11 victims with injuries ranging from minor to critical, but the police later confirmed that a total of 12 individuals were injured, all with non-life-threatening injuries.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed her distress over the shooting incident, stating, “I am deeply troubled to hear reports of a shooting at a pub in Scarborough.” She also mentioned that she had a discussion with Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw, who assured her that all necessary resources had been deployed for the investigation.

In response to the shooting, a command post has been established in the west end of a parking lot near the pub, and Progress Avenue has been temporarily closed between Ellesmere Road and Highway 401 to facilitate the police investigation. Authorities advised the public to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
