Inmate escapes airport, disappears after hopping on train

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was the scene of a dramatic escape on Sunday morning, as an inmate managed to flee from police custody and board a train. Port of Seattle Police were alerted to the escape at around 11 a.m. and immediately launched a search for the fugitive.

The escaped inmate was identified as Sedrick T. Stevenson, a 28-year-old wanted on warrants out of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Stevenson had been in the custody of a contracted agent who was attempting to transport him when he managed to slip away at the airport’s ticket counter. Despite the agents’ efforts to chase him down, Stevenson made a run for it towards the light rail station.

Security cameras confirmed that Stevenson had successfully boarded a northbound light rail train and was headed towards Capitol Hill. Sound Transit security personnel spotted him exiting the Capitol Hill station, but by that time, he had already evaded capture.

Port of Seattle Police have now issued a warrant for Stevenson’s arrest for escape in the second degree. The authorities conducted a thorough search of the airport premises, including baggage claim and the platform, to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.

The escape did not impact airport operations, and flights continued to operate as usual. However, the search for Stevenson remains ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward.

The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining security at busy transportation hubs. Stevenson’s escape highlights the need for enhanced vigilance and security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
