Israel suspected ramming attack injures nine people: police

A suspected ramming attack in northern Israel left at least nine people injured, including a critically wounded 17-year-old girl, according to Israeli police. The incident took place at a bus station in Karkur Junction on Route 65. The driver, identified as a 53-year-old Palestinian from the Jenin area who was in Israel unlawfully and married to an Israeli citizen, was also injured and subsequently neutralized by police.
Of the nine victims, two were severely wounded while six sustained minor injuries. All of the injured individuals were evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment. The police spokesperson stated that preliminary findings suggest that the driver deliberately targeted civilians waiting at the bus stop. The incident is still under investigation, and the police commissioner is conducting an on-site situational assessment.
Graphic images from the scene show the man’s body next to the vehicle used in the attack, with Israeli security forces present in a cordoned-off area. A heavy police presence remains in the area as authorities search for any other potential attackers. Tensions have been escalating in the West Bank, with Israel sending tanks into the town of Jenin for the first time in two decades.
In response to the rising threat of vehicular terrorism, House Republicans have introduced a new bill aimed at addressing the issue. The legislation would require the Department of Homeland Security to conduct an annual report on emerging threats and countermeasures related to vehicular terrorism. The bill comes in the wake of an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack in New Orleans, where 14 people were killed.
Vice President JD Vance highlighted the global trend of ramming attacks by alleged Islamic extremists during a speech at the Munich Security Conference. Vance referenced a recent incident in Munich where an Afghan refugee drove his vehicle into a crowd, resulting in fatalities and injuries. The Vice President emphasized the need for a new direction to combat these appalling attacks.
