Jets face scrutiny after bringing in exec they fired to help find new GM, coach

The New York Jets have made a surprising move by bringing back former general manager Mike Tannenbaum to assist with their current general manager and head coaching search. Tannenbaum, who was fired by the organization years ago, will be working with his company, The 33rd Team, to help identify, vet, and coordinate interviews for potential candidates.

This decision has left some fans and analysts scratching their heads, wondering why the Jets would turn to someone they let go over a decade ago for help with such crucial decisions. Tannenbaum’s tenure with the Jets saw some success, including drafting key players like Darrelle Revis, Nick Mangold, and D’Brickashaw Ferguson, but ultimately ended after the team missed the playoffs for two consecutive seasons in 2012.

Despite the mixed reactions to Tannenbaum’s return, the Jets are hoping to gain insight from his experience and knowledge of the organization. Along with former Vikings GM Rick Spielman, Tannenbaum will be leading The 33rd Team’s efforts in the search for a new GM and head coach.

While some have suggested that Tannenbaum may have an ulterior motive in helping the Jets, others have proposed the idea of reuniting him with former head coach Rex Ryan, who expressed interest in returning to the franchise. However, it remains to be seen whether the Jets will consider this option.

Since leaving the Jets, Tannenbaum has held positions with the Miami Dolphins and ESPN, gaining further experience in the football world. The Jets have struggled to find success since his departure, going through multiple GMs without breaking their playoff drought.

As the Jets embark on this new chapter with Tannenbaum’s assistance, it will be interesting to see how his involvement impacts the team’s search for new leadership. Only time will tell if this decision proves to be a wise move or if it will lead to more questions about the direction of the franchise.
