Latest Trump nominees include Kari Lake, Dr. Peter Lamelas and Daniel Newlin
President-elect Donald Trump made several key nominations on Wednesday night for various positions in his upcoming second term. Among the notable appointments, Kari Lake was chosen to be the next director of the Voice of America, a state-funded U.S. government broadcaster. Lake, a longtime Arizona broadcaster who previously ran for public office in 2022 and 2024, will work closely with the next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media to ensure that American values of freedom and liberty are broadcast globally in a fair and accurate manner.
Voice of America is a crucial broadcast channel that delivers news, information, and cultural programming in over 40 languages through various mediums such as the internet, mobile and social media, radio, and television. Trump expressed confidence in Lake’s ability to lead the organization effectively.
In addition to Lake, Trump nominated Dr. Peter Lamelas as the next U.S. Ambassador to Argentina. Dr. Lamelas, a physician, philanthropist, and businessman, immigrated to the United States from Cuba and founded MD Now Urgent Care, Florida’s largest urgent care system. His previous experience includes serving on the Department of Justice’s Medal of Valor Review Board during Trump’s first term and holding positions as a town commissioner in Manalapan, Florida, and on the state’s Board of Medicine.
Furthermore, Daniel Newlin, a law enforcement veteran and personal injury attorney, was selected by Trump to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to Colombia. With a distinguished 28-year career at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and as the founder of Dan Newlin Personal Injury Attorneys, one of the country’s leading firms in the field, Newlin brings a wealth of experience to the role. Trump highlighted Newlin’s expertise in law enforcement and business, emphasizing his potential to advocate for U.S. interests and strengthen international ties.
These nominations mark the latest additions to Trump’s list of appointees as he prepares for his second term. The president-elect hopes that the Senate will confirm these selections in the near future to ensure a smooth transition into his administration.
