Love Island USA tells viewers to stop harassing contestants: ‘Remember they’re real people’

Love Island USA, the most-watched streaming reality show in the U.S., has issued a stern warning to its fans about harassing its contestants. The show has been facing increased criticism online, especially after recent eliminations and the introduction of new cast members.

The show’s host, Ariana Madix, addressed the issue during a recent aftershow, urging viewers to refrain from contacting contestants’ families, doxing them, or leaving rude comments on their social media pages. The show even displayed a message during an episode reminding viewers that Love Island is about love, not cyberbullying or hate.

In a post on social media, Love Island USA emphasized the importance of treating contestants with kindness and respect, reminding fans that they are real people. The show has seen a surge in viewership since its seventh season premiered, but unfortunately, a lot of the interaction online has been negative.

One particular incident that sparked controversy involved contestant Elan Bibas, who has been labeled a “threat” by viewers due to his Jewish background. Some online posts accused him of being an IDF soldier, while others expressed concern for a Palestinian castmate after Bibas and a contestant of Palestinian descent kissed on the show. The Anti-Defamation League condemned the antisemitic attacks against Bibas, calling them baseless and hateful.

Love Island USA is not the only reality show facing online harassment issues. Stars of The Bachelor have spoken out about the hate they receive online, and the creator of the Netflix show Baby Reindeer had to plead with fans to stop trying to identify the characters, as it led to harassment of the actors.

It’s important for fans to remember that the contestants on these shows are real people with feelings and families. While it’s natural to have opinions about their actions on the show, it’s never okay to engage in cyberbullying or harassment. Love Island USA and other reality shows are meant to entertain, not to harm the participants. Let’s spread love and kindness instead of hate and negativity.
