A man fatally shot by police in east Colorado Springs neighborhood

A man was fatally shot by police in an east Colorado Springs neighborhood on Friday afternoon after he fired at them as they tried to arrest him, officials said.

The Colorado Springs Police Department‘s violent offender task force and tactical unit was searching for a “wanted suspect” in the 1100 block of Branding Iron Circle at 2:48 p.m. when they found the man and tried to contact him in his vehicle, the agency said on social media.

Suspect fires at police

Department officials did not disclose the specific charges the man was facing. The man refused to leave the vehicle, and after officers observed he was armed, he fired at least one round at police.

Police response and investigation

At least one officer returned fire, and police arrested the suspect, providing emergency medical aid until paramedics arrived. Unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, no officers or community members were injured during the incident. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the shooting.
