Margot Robbie wows on red carpets Barbie outfit repros

How many fashion enthusiasts fueled their earliest sartorial tendencies by putting their dolls on fashion shows, dressing them in Velcro outfits, and twisting their synthetic hair into fabulous creations? Recently, if Margaret Robbie and the cast of “Barbie” have embarked on a world press tour for the upcoming film, Robbie’s stylist Andrew Mukamal has fulfilled that childhood dream by dressing the real Barbie in one delightful girly look after another.

And we’re all living in a Barbie world this summer. Between the movie’s meticulously recreated Dreamhouse set, Ryan Gosling’s Kenergy, director Greta Gerwig’s movie references, a boppy soundtrack from Dua Lipa and Ice Spice, and a top-secret script (what’s it about?!), this is the most highly anticipated movie in years.

The stakes are high, but Mukamal has managed to fulfill the fandom’s every wish by dressing Robbie in a nostalgic parade of iconic Barbie doll outfit recreations and vintage pieces from Versace, Chanel and Moschino, many paired with tailoring. made Manolo Blahnik stiletto mules that are perfect for slipping on those arched, immobile feet.

As a tribute to the doll that started it all, Mukamal styled Robbie for an event in Sydney in a black and white Hervé Léger minidress with white sunglasses and a wavy ponytail to channel the very first Barbie doll, The Original, released in 1959. Barbie never takes a day off – and that includes the airport – Robbie left the terminal in Sydney in a vintage 1990s Chanel ensemble, including a pink tweed blazer and chinos once worn by supermodel Claudia Schiffer, complete with matching pink Streamline luggage.

It’s the fun fashion history lesson we didn’t know we needed. Here’s the details on Robbie’s best looks from the Barbie press tour so far.

Solo in the spotlight Barbie in Los Angeles

Margot Robbie in Schiaparelli.

Perhaps Barbie’s most glamorous look was saved for the LA premiere: a shimmering black Schiaparelli Haute Couture tailored dress from designer Daniel Roseberry. The form-fitting, hand-beaded black dress featured a red rosette at the calf and a tulle hem that flared straight out for maximum drama, paired with long black gloves and a pink chiffon handkerchief, just like the 1960 doll. Lorraine Schwartz diamond necklaces and stud earrings enhanced this look as a total showstopper.

Margot Robbie in Vivienne Westwood.

For the London premiere, Robbie wore a light pink satin Vivienne Westwood dress with a rosette waist and long train, complemented by a white ruffled shrug, satin gloves and triple pearl necklace. The look is almost an exact replica of the 1961 Enchanted Evening Fashion Barbie; she wore her hair in a high bouncy fringe, while Robbie went for an updated face-framing chignon.

Margot Robbie in Pucci.

Curly hair that fell almost to the floor was the calling card of this 1992 doll. A ton of curled extensions from Robbie’s hairstylist Bryce Scarlett was paired with a multicolored print dress by Emilio Pucci, pink Manolo Blahnik pumps, a Chanel bag and Taffin Jewelry.

Margot Robbie in Valentino.

It’s in the name! The 2015 Barbie doll came to life wearing a custom bright pink Valentino dress with a center cutout and a yellow handbag that is nearly identical to the doll’s version. Accessories included Pearl Assael jewelry, white Manolo Blahnik pumps and a sweet pink ride.

Day to Night Barbie in Seoul

Margot Robbie at Versace.

Getting two outfits with one Barbie was the dream. For the Seoul premiere, Robbie wore two looks in one night: first, a white and pink Versace blazer and skirt with matching boat hat, heels, handbag and a Judith Leiber Couture clutch in the shape of a brick cell phone to match the doll from 1985.

The “night” look consisted of a prom-ready pink Versace dress with a sparkly bodice and a tulle skirt tied at the waist.

This Barbie was ready to party. German ’90s supermodel Claudia Schiffer was another clincher for Barbie, and this disco chain mail look straight from the 1994 Versace archives, originally worn by Schiffer, had us double-checking.
