Maschmeyer leads Charge past Sirens for 2nd win in 6 games

Ottawa Charge Defeats New York Sirens 3-1

Emerance Maschmeyer was stellar in net for the Ottawa Charge, making 34 saves on 35 shots on goal to lead her team to a 3-1 victory over the New York Sirens on Sunday. This win marked the Charge’s second victory in six games, showing a strong performance after a 10-day break.

The Charge got off to a strong start with first-period goals from Emily Clark and Shiann Darkangelo. In the second period, Katerina Mrazova added another goal to give Ottawa a commanding 3-0 lead. The team has consistently scored at least three goals in all five of their matchups against New York over the past two seasons.

Alex Carpenter extended her scoring streak to nine straight games with an assist in the third period. Sarah Fillier also made an impact, tying for the league lead with eight points in her first eight games after being drafted first overall by the Sirens.

Ottawa’s defense was able to neutralize New York’s speed advantage and utilized a strong penalty kill to keep the Sirens at bay. Clark’s first-period goal, off a shot from Brianne Jenner, gave the Charge a 1-0 lead after the opening period. Two quick goals in the second period extended their lead, although they were unable to capitalize on late power plays.

Fillier quickly got New York on the board in the third period, but Maschmeyer stood tall in net, making crucial saves to secure the win. The Sirens pulled their goalkeeper in the final minutes, but Maschmeyer shut down their offense to preserve the victory.
