100-year-old Winnipeg man continues to make trek to visit his wife

A Love Story: Winnipeg Man, 100, Walks Five Blocks Every Day to See Wife
Living to be 100 is considered lucky, but for many, it comes with significant mobility issues. However, Jack Mudry from Winnipeg defies the odds as a centenarian who regularly walks five blocks to visit his wife Stella at the care home where she resides.
The couple met in 1947 during a ride from Winnipeg to Sandy Lake. Stella turned around and kissed Jack, sparking a romance that led to marriage three years later. Last year, health problems forced Stella to move to a care facility, separating the couple after 75 years of marriage.
Despite the distance, Jack makes the effort to see Stella every day. Sometimes he gets a ride, but most often, he chooses to walk the half-hour journey. His daughter, Alexandra Todd, shares that Jack started walking there last winter and finds joy in the journey.
Despite concerns from staff at his retirement home, Jack remains determined to visit Stella, disregarding any obstacles. His unwavering devotion is evident in his words, “When I make my mind up, I just dress up and I’m going. And I don’t care what anybody says.”
For Jack, the long walk to see Stella is worth every step as it allows their 75-year-long love story to continue. His commitment and love for his wife inspire all who hear their tale of enduring love.
