Matt Riddle talks recent high-profile wrestling departures

Major League Wrestling (MLW) star Matt Riddle has offered a positive outlook for pro wrestlers following the recent high-profile departures from WWE. Last week, WWE decided not to renew contracts with several superstars including Braun Strowman, Dakota Kai, Shayna Baszler, and others.

Riddle himself was released by WWE in September 2023, but has since found success in other promotions such as New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. He made a significant impact in MLW by winning the world heavyweight championship at the beginning of the year.

Speaking to Fox News Digital, Riddle expressed gratitude for the opportunities that arose after his departure from WWE. He emphasized that sometimes getting fired can lead to new and better opportunities.

“It depends on what you do when you get fired. It’s always unfortunate when people lose their jobs, but at the end of the day, for some of us, say for me, for example, it was a blessing,” Riddle said. “Sometimes you need somebody to shut a door on you so another can open. Even when I got fired from UFC back in the day, it ultimately led me to where I am today.”

Riddle returned to MLW in 2024 and has since achieved numerous accomplishments, including winning the Battle Riot VI and successfully defending the World Heavyweight Championship. He is set to defend his title against Donovan Dijak at Azteca Lucha in Chicago this weekend.

Overall, Riddle’s journey serves as a reminder that setbacks can often lead to unforeseen opportunities and success. Keep an eye on this rising star as he continues to make waves in the world of professional wrestling.
