Trump administration aims for 3,000 arrests of illegal immigrants each day

The Trump administration is doubling down on its efforts to crack down on illegal immigration, with a new goal of 3,000 arrests of illegal immigrants daily. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller confirmed this target during an appearance on “Hannity,” stating that the number will continue to increase over time.

This announcement follows a report from Axios that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Miller were in support of the 3,000 daily arrest figure during a meeting at ICE headquarters. Border czar Tom Homan also reiterated the administration’s commitment to ramping up arrests, stating that officials are seeking an increase in enforcement actions.

“We’ve gotta increase these arrests and removals,” Homan emphasized. Despite ICE’s record-breaking enforcement efforts during Trump’s first 100 days, Homan expressed dissatisfaction with the current numbers, highlighting public safety concerns associated with the large population of illegal immigrants in the country.

To encourage compliance with immigration laws, DHS is offering incentives for self-deportation to individuals without criminal records, including a covered commercial flight and a $1,000 stipend for exiting the country. This initiative aims to address the issue of illegal immigration and prioritize the removal of individuals who pose a threat to public safety.

During Trump’s first 100 days, ICE made significant progress in its enforcement efforts, arresting over 66,000 illegal immigrants and deporting more than 65,000 individuals. Of those removed, over 17,000 had criminal convictions or charges, ranging from driving under the influence to assault and weapon offenses.

Secretary Noem praised the agency’s achievements under Trump’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of deporting criminal illegal aliens to enhance public safety. The administration’s push for increased arrests aligns with its commitment to enforcing immigration laws and safeguarding American communities.

As part of its comprehensive approach to immigration enforcement, the administration is urging Congress to pass the reconciliation bill, which recently cleared the House. The bill includes provisions to enhance funding for ICE, adding 10,000 more agents and expanding detention facilities to accommodate tens of thousands more individuals.

“This bill will add infrastructure and technology to make our gains on the borders permanent,” Homan explained. “It puts more boots on the ground to target cartel activity, alien smuggling, child trafficking, and drug smuggling. It will provide the needed funds and manpower to increase the great work of ICE on our deportation operations nationwide.”

The Trump administration’s focus on increasing daily arrests of illegal immigrants underscores its commitment to upholding immigration laws and securing the nation’s borders. With a proactive approach to enforcement and support for legislative measures to enhance border security, the administration aims to address the challenges posed by illegal immigration and promote public safety.
