New Glasgow Police ask for assistance in Ribfest theft case

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — In the early hours of Sunday, Aug. 13, New Glasgow Regional Police reported that a Pictou County Ribfest 2023 vendor had their goods stolen.

The police report that the theft happened between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. According to the statement put out by police, the stolen goods ranged from food to equipment.

The Tearmann Society, which offers shelter and counselling services to women who are victims of domestic violence, came out on social media to say that they were the victims of the thefts. They had their 50/50 tickets and T-shirts stolen from their booth.

On social media, the society put out a statement:

“Disappointing news this morning, we came into our booth at Pictou County Ribfest this morning to see that our volunteer shirts and unsold 50-50 tickets had been stolen. We have stopped the sale of tickets. If you see anyone selling Tearmann 50-50 tickets or wearing our purple Tearmann shirts, please report it to the New Glasgow Regional Police.”

Police said that they’re still in the early stages of the investigation and asked anyone with video, camera, or dashcam footage to come forward as it may be helpful in the investigation.

They are asking anyone who may have information about the thefts or those responsible to contact them at 902-752-1941. Anonymous tips can be sent through Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers either by calling their toll-free number, 1-800-222-8477, or through their website, www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.
