North Bay news: L’ami’s Garden Center has a new cat after a long journey

It’s been quite a week for the newest cat on L’ami’s garden center in North Bay, Ont.

“We got a load of birdseed in, we unloaded everything, my brother was on the forklift, turned off the forklift and heard some meowing,” says co-owner Casey L’ami.

The owners wondered how one of their cats could end up in the order already.

“We looked in there and there was this little guy, trapped between two pallets,” L’Ami said.

The cat made the trip to North Bay over three days, coming all the way from Manitoba.

The garden center contacted the farm the shipment came from to make sure the cat was not missed by any family and to ask to keep it, staff said in a statement. Facebook message.

“We decided we would keep him. He had it checked by our friends at the Animal Hospital Callander‘ said L’Ami.

“Everything is really good, he’s really healthy.”

The cat came up with the name Bubba, but L’Ami told CTV News he wasn’t too receptive to the name, so the store’s staff decided to change it.

“Since he was from Manitoba, we thought it would be cool to give him a name related to that, so we decided to call him Toby.”

Now, a week and a half after his new adventure in the garden center, the staff said he was completely at home.

“He is extremely sociable, he will come right up to you. We’ve already had customers bring toys and deliver treats for him,” said L’Ami.
