Off-Duty Amherst Police Officer Charged with Drunk Driving and Firearms Offences

An off-duty Amherst police officer has been charged with drunk driving and firearms offences

On Sunday evening, RCMP were called to a restaurant in Oxford, N.S. for a report of an intoxicated man. Sgt. Christopher Lamert Jobe, 42, was showing signs of impairment and was asked to provide a breath sample, which he failed. He was subsequently arrested, and a loaded handgun was found on him during a search. The RCMP confirmed that the handgun was not a service weapon.

Jobe was taken to the Oxford RCMP detachment where he provided breath samples that were three times the legal limit. He now faces charges of possession of a prohibited firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and careless use of a firearm, among other offences. His court appearance is scheduled for April in Amherst.

The Serious Incident Response Team, Nova Scotia’s police watchdog, supervised the RCMP’s investigation and supported their handling of the case. In response to the incident, the Amherst police have placed Jobe on suspension. A spokesperson for the town of Amherst noted that Jobe has not been on active duty or at work for several months.
