Regional Police Encounter Dangerous Situation with Vehicle
On a Wednesday evening, regional police officers faced a perilous situation when they were almost hit by a vehicle, leading to the use of a firearm during the incident.
The Halifax Regional Police (HRP) reported that the incident took place in Fairview on Main Avenue around 7 p.m. Two officers attempted to stop a vehicle that suddenly accelerated towards one of them. In response, the officer pulled out their firearm and fired two shots at the side of the vehicle before the driver fled the scene. Thankfully, the officers did not sustain any injuries.
The suspect, identified as Cory Nicholas Baker, 32, is now facing charges of attempted murder, operating a vehicle while forbidden, and dangerous operation. Baker appeared in court on August 28 to address these charges.
Following the incident, officers mistakenly detained four individuals near Joseph Howe Drive, who were later released after it was determined that they were not involved in the initial incident.
HRP has referred this incident to the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) for further investigation. SIRT, also known as the police watchdog, will analyze the events that transpired during the encounter with the vehicle.
