Calgary Expo Parade of Wonders thrills thousands
Join us for all the excitement as the Parade of Wonders makes its way through downtown Calgary on a new route this year, kicking off the annual Calgary Expo weekend. Described as Canada’s largest cosplay parade, the event celebrates all things pop culture and creativity right in the heart of Calgary.
The festivities begin at the Victoria Park Fan Zone located at First Street S.W. and 13th Avenue. From there, the parade will travel south on Centre Street, then head east on 17th Avenue S.E. before culminating at the BMO Centre’s Grand Staircase at Stampede Park.
This year’s Calgary Expo boasts an impressive lineup of guests, including Michael J. Fox, Nicholas Hoult, David Boreanaz, John Boyega, Dafne Keen, Christopher Lloyd, Tyler Hoechlin, Helen Hunt, Catherine Tate, Heather Locklear, James Marsters, Adam Savage, and many more.
Mayor Jyoti Gondek joined in on the fun, cosplaying as Lady Thor and walking alongside Calgary’s first dog mayor, Loki. She shared, “I like to delegate some authorities to him [Loki the dog] like making sure the park is good for everybody.”
Lucas Grabeel, best known for his role as Ryan Evans in the High School Musical films, expressed his excitement about the event, stating, “I’m loving the Marvel Universe, the Star Wars, the Ghostbusters, the [Teenage Mutant Ninja] Turtles, the Jurassic Park – I’m in for all of it.”
Adam Savage, renowned special effects designer and fabricator, and former co-host of MythBusters, revealed that he is most looking forward to meeting fans and admiring their intricate costumes. He expressed his enthusiasm for connecting with attendees and geeking out over the craftsmanship of their outfits.
The Calgary Expo will run for four days, concluding on Sunday at 5 p.m. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable celebration of all things geeky and creative.
