Athletics ‘can’t wait’ to trade Severino after ballpark criticism

Athletics pitcher Luis Severino isn’t holding back when it comes to his feelings about his team’s temporary home ballpark. It seems that the Athletics are eager to part ways with him before the MLB trade deadline as well.

Severino, who recently returned to the mound at Yankee Stadium, faced his former team and struggled. After the game, he spoke out about the difference between pitching at actual MLB ballparks on the road versus Sutter Health Park, a minor-league facility that the Athletics are using as their home for the next few seasons before their move to Las Vegas.

In a USA Today report, it was mentioned that the Athletics are looking to trade Severino, the man they signed to a lucrative three-year deal worth $67 million in December, which is the richest guaranteed contract in franchise history. When asked about this report, Severino responded honestly, stating, “If you ask me how I feel pitching at home, I’m not going to lie to you. My job is to be honest with you guys.”

Severino also mentioned that his teammates share the same sentiments about Sutter Health Park, saying, “I’m not the only one who feels the same way.” He previously commented that pitching at home feels like a spring training game compared to road games.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future with the Athletics, Severino remains focused on performing at his best. This season, he has struggled with a 5.18 ERA over 18 starts and a 1.380 WHIP. However, his performance on the road has been better, with a 3.23 ERA in eight away starts.

With the MLB trade deadline approaching on July 31, the Athletics have until then to find a potential trade partner for Severino if they decide to move him. Whether he stays or goes, Severino is determined to continue giving his all on the mound.
