Peruvian police officer dressed as the “Grinch” busts suspected drug traffickers

A festive and unconventional approach to law enforcement was taken by a Peruvian police officer who dressed up as the Grinch, the iconic Christmas villain, to apprehend suspected drug traffickers in the capital city of Lima just days before Christmas. The operation, which took place in San Bartolo, resulted in the arrest of three individuals, identified as members of the La Mafia de San Bartolo gang, who were allegedly involved in drug dealing. The Peruvian National Police posted a video online showcasing the arrest and seizure of various narcotics.

In the video footage, the officer, clad in a Grinch costume and wielding a sledgehammer, can be seen breaking into a home where the suspects were located. After entering the premises, the Grinch rummaged through the property and uncovered illegal drugs and other items associated with drug trafficking. The use of such a creative disguise added a whimsical yet effective element to the police operation.

Peru is recognized as the second-largest producer of cocaine and cultivator of coca globally, with a significant portion of the illicit substances being transported to various countries for distribution. The State Department highlights that cocaine production in Peru is often destined for South American nations, as well as Europe, the United States, East Asia, and Mexico.

This is not the first time that the Peruvian national police have employed unconventional tactics in their operations. In a previous Halloween initiative in 2023, officers dressed up as horror icons such as Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Tiffany Valentine from the “Child’s Play” series to apprehend suspected drug dealers.
