Trump holds out ‘hope’ while Putin holds on to Ukraine

President Donald Trump expressed hope on Thursday that Russia would agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine in an effort to end the ongoing conflict. Speaking from the Oval Office alongside NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Trump stated, “We know where we are with Ukraine. Hopefully they’ll do the right thing,” referring to Russia.

Following Trump’s remarks, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the situation from Moscow, thanking Trump for his ceasefire efforts and acknowledging agreement in principle. However, Putin did not outright accept the proposed 30-day ceasefire. Trump, aware of Putin’s comments, described them as “promising” but “incomplete.”

Trump expressed a willingness to meet with Putin or engage in further discussions to expedite the resolution. He noted that Russian concerns regarding the Zaporizhzhia power plant and Ukraine’s potential NATO membership had been raised, echoing Putin’s own statements.

Despite ongoing negotiations and discussions about a potential agreement, Trump emphasized the need for a swift resolution. He highlighted that many details of a possible ceasefire had already been deliberated, suggesting that Russia’s cooperation was crucial.

The president warned of potential disappointment if Russia did not ultimately agree to the terms, emphasizing the global significance of reaching a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

As the situation continues to evolve, updates on this developing story will be provided.
