Pictou County man arrested after robbery and fleeing from police

SALT SPRINGS – Pictou County Integrated Crime Enforcement Unit arrested 40-year-old Darren Brent Snell regarding a robbery that was reported on Dec. 5, 2023.

The investigation revealed that a man had made plans to purchase tools from Snell, near exit 19 in Salt Springs. When the man approached the location Snell brandished a gun and demanded the man get out of his vehicle. Snell then got into the buyer’s vehicle and drove off.

Westville Police Service spotted Snell in the vehicle, speeding on Acadia Avenue, before crashing and proceeding to flee on foot.

With assistance from New Glasgow, Stellarton, Westville and RCMP Snell was found at a home in Stellarton. Snell then tried to flee on foot from officers but was apprehended on Foord Street.

Snell is charged with robbery, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000, resisting a peace officer and possession contrary to court order. He remains in custody and will appear in Pictou Provincial Court on Dec. 8.
