Man, 32, dead after stabbing in quiet Halifax neighbourhood

One man is dead after a stabbing in Halifax early Wednesday morning.

Halifax Regional Police said they were called at 2:20 a.m. to Twin Oaks Road in Spryfield, where they found the 32-year-old victim. He was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries.

A 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene without incident and was being questioned about the killing at a two storey-apartment house on the short, quiet street, which runs between Circle Drive and Herring Cove Road and has mostly multi-unit buildings.

Police are continuing to investigate but say they don’t believe it was a random incident.

A neighbour said that the incident was not something they would have expected.

“This area is a good area, this street is quiet, so it’s a shock that something like this happened,” the neighbour said.

The first inkling of trouble was a dog barking and then someone yelling that another person had stabbed them in the back. It wasn’t clear if that was the physical injury or an expression of being betrayed.

The victim was found on the front lawn, the neighbour said. They said they didn’t know much about the people involved, but believed one had moved into the building before summer.

Const. Nicolas Gagnon said he isn’t able to say whether the incident happened inside or outside.

Police expect to be at the scene most of the day. Forensic identification officers could be seen working in the backyard of the building Wednesday morning, and the entire property was cordoned off with police tape. A patrol car and the forensics vehicle were parked out front.

No charges had been laid as of late afternoon.
