Pregnant Gisele Bündchen faces this big risk of home birth

Gisele Bündchen, the Brazilian supermodel, is expecting her third child with boyfriend Joaquim Valente, according to a source confirmed to Fox News Digital. This news comes after her divorce from retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady, with whom she shares two children.

Bündchen, who is 44 years old, is reportedly several months along in her pregnancy and has decided not to find out the baby’s gender. She is also planning a home birth, similar to the one she had with her son. While giving birth at home can be a comfortable and less clinical experience, some experts have raised concerns about the potential risks involved.

Talitha Phillips, a labor and postpartum doula, emphasized that the biggest concern with home births is the lack of immediate access to necessary medical interventions in case of a serious complication. Kristin Revere, an elite certified doula, also pointed out that home births are not covered by general insurance, which could pose challenges if a transfer to the hospital becomes necessary.

However, there are benefits to birthing at home as well. The mother can be in a familiar and comfortable environment, with fewer medical interventions throughout the process. She also has more control over who is present during the birth and can involve her other children if desired.

Despite the potential risks, some women prefer home births for various reasons. They may feel more comfortable in their own environment, have quick labors, or simply prefer the longer prenatal visits offered by home birth midwives. While age can be a factor in pregnancy risk, Revere noted that overall health is more important when considering a home birth.

For women considering a home birth, Phillips recommended thoroughly researching the provider’s qualifications, education, and patient reviews. It is also important to ensure that the provider has a backup with hospital privileges in case of a transfer. Revere suggested taking a comprehensive childbirth class to prepare for an un-medicated birth.

Different states have varying laws regarding home births, so restrictions may apply depending on the location. It is essential to be informed about these regulations, especially in cases of vaginal birth after cesarean or twin births.

Fox News Digital reached out to Bündchen’s representative for comment on the pregnancy news. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting journey for Gisele Bündchen and her growing family.
