FBI targets 3 children’s hospitals over trans medical procedures

The FBI has recently launched criminal investigations into three children’s hospitals in the United States as part of the Trump administration’s crackdown on irreversible sex-change surgeries for minors. Attorney General Pam Bondi has committed to enforcing federal statutes that outlaw female genital mutilation in order to protect children from these controversial procedures.
The hospitals under investigation include Boston Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. These facilities have been at the forefront of providing sex-change procedures for minors in America over the past few years. The investigations are targeting providers who work at these hospitals, with a focus on potential violations of federal laws prohibiting female genital mutilation.
President Donald Trump issued an executive order shortly after taking office, directing federal agencies to work towards ending the ability for children under 18 to undergo irreversible medical interventions as a treatment for gender dysphoria. Attorney General Bondi followed up with a memorandum instructing Justice Department personnel to enforce federal laws against female genital mutilation.
Bondi’s memo warned medical practitioners, hospitals, and clinics that it is a felony to perform or conspire to perform female genital mutilation on individuals under the age of 18. Violating this law can result in a maximum prison sentence of 10 years per count. The Justice Department is now launching a Coalition Against Child Mutilation to partner with state attorneys general in building cases against hospitals and practitioners involved in these illegal procedures.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles recently announced the permanent closure of its Center for Transyouth Health and Development due to operational, legal, and financial risks stemming from changing policy landscapes at both state and federal levels. Meanwhile, Children’s Hospital Colorado has suspended transgender medical treatments for patients under 19 in response to the president’s executive order.
Boston Children’s Hospital, on the other hand, continues to operate its Gender Multispecialty Service (GeMS) program, offering transgender hormone therapy, puberty blockers, and social transitioning for patients under 18. The hospital also provides referrals for gender-transition surgeries for minors. However, Boston Children’s has stated that it has not been notified by the FBI regarding any alleged violations of federal law.
As the investigations into these children’s hospitals unfold, the Trump administration’s efforts to protect minors from irreversible sex-change procedures are gaining momentum. The FBI’s actions signal a firm stance against female genital mutilation and the enforcement of federal statutes to safeguard the well-being of children. The future of gender-affirming care for minors remains uncertain as hospitals navigate the evolving legal landscape surrounding these controversial treatments.
