Republicans within striking distance of House majority as key races remain too close to call

The race for control of the House of Representatives is heating up, with Republicans inching closer to securing a majority. With the Senate and White House already under Republican control, the House majority is within reach for the GOP. According to Associated Press race projections, Republicans currently hold 209 seats compared to 196 seats for Democrats, with five sitting House lawmakers projected to lose their re-election bids so far.

Key races in California involving GOP incumbents remain too close to call and are expected to play a pivotal role in determining the House majority. Republicans in Arizona, Nebraska, Iowa, and Oregon are also awaiting result projections. The party that reaches 218 victories first will secure the House majority in the 119th Congress.

House Republican leaders are expressing confidence in their eventual victory, with the top four House leaders already announcing bids to retain their positions in a January House majority. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise emphasized the tight margins in key races, particularly in California where GOP incumbents are leading by small margins.

On the other hand, House Democrats are facing dwindling hopes of winning the majority. Multiple sources indicate that Democrats are bracing for Republicans to gain complete control of Congress and the White House. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, while acknowledging the challenging situation, emphasized the need to count every vote and await clear results in Oregon, Arizona, and California.

In key wins for Democrats, projections show the unseating of Republican incumbents in three New York seats. On the Republican side, the party is projected to flip three seats, including one vacated by a Democrat in Michigan and two districts held by moderate Democrats in Pennsylvania. Former House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry is also projected to survive his toughest race yet.
