Search for Two Missing Children in Pictou County Continues into the Night

The search for two missing children in Pictou County, Nova Scotia is expected to carry on into the night on Monday as RCMP and rescue agencies continue their efforts to locate Lily Sullivan, 6, and Jack Sullivan, 4. The siblings were last seen on Friday morning at their home on Gairloch Road in Lansdowne Station, about 20 kilometres southwest of New Glasgow.

Despite it being a few days since the children went missing, the search teams remain hopeful and determined to bring them home. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Carlie McCann stated that drones, specially trained ground search and rescue crews, and police dog services may be utilized in the nighttime search efforts to cover more ground and increase the chances of finding the children.

Amy Hansen, the search manager for the day shifts with Colchester Ground Search and Rescue, mentioned that a significant number of ground searchers have been involved in the search, with up to 140 during the day and 60 to 75 at night. The search has been ongoing 24/7 since the children were reported missing.

The community of Pictou County has come together in support of the search efforts, with residents expressing their hopes and prayers for the safe return of Lily and Jack. Robert Parker, the warden of the Municipality of Pictou County, emphasized the importance of not speculating on social media and respecting the privacy of the children’s family during this difficult time.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, over 160 people participated in the search on Sunday, with searchers locating what could potentially be a footprint on Saturday. The stepfather of the children, Daniel Martell, has urged authorities to expand the search to monitor the New Brunswick border and nearby airports in case the children were abducted.

Martell described the events leading up to the children’s disappearance, noting that they likely left through the sliding back door of their home. He emphasized the close bond between Jack and Lily, describing them as best friends who love bugs, dinosaurs, and girly things.

As the search continues, the community remains hopeful for a positive outcome and urges anyone with information to come forward. The Salvation Army has been providing meals to the search teams, ensuring they are well-fed during their efforts.

Authorities have issued a vulnerable missing persons alert for Antigonish, Colchester, and Pictou counties, urging anyone with information about the children to contact Pictou County District RCMP at 902-485-4333. The search for Lily and Jack Sullivan will continue throughout the night as searchers remain steadfast in their mission to bring the children home safely.
