Searchers spend 4th day scouring Pictou County for missing children

The disappearance of two young children, Lily Sullivan, 6, and Jack Sullivan, 4, from their home on Gairloch Road in Lansdowne Station, Nova Scotia, has left the community reeling. As a councillor in the rural enclave of Pictou County, I can attest to the fact that the last four days have been incredibly tough on all of us.
Search and rescue teams, along with police, have been tirelessly scouring wooded areas in the county in hopes of locating the missing siblings. The community is filled with concern and worry, but we are all holding out hope for a positive outcome. It has been difficult for many residents who want to help in any way they can, but it’s crucial to heed the advice of authorities and let the trained searchers do their work.
Despite challenging weather conditions, about 160 people have continued the search efforts, even expanding into new areas based on potential leads. The dedicated searchers are meticulously documenting their progress to ensure thorough coverage of the ground. The RCMP have also confirmed that the search has extended into the night to maximize efforts.
The stepfather of the missing children, Daniel Martell, has expressed his desire for authorities to widen their search perimeter to include the New Brunswick border and nearby airports. He believes that the children may have been abducted, citing the lack of swift police response and resources. Martell describes Lily and Jack as not just siblings, but best friends, with unique interests and personalities.
The Salt Springs Elementary school community, where the children attend, has rallied together to provide support for students and staff during this difficult time. Additional resources and counseling services have been made available to help cope with the situation.
In the midst of the search efforts, the Salvation Army has been providing meals for the search teams and responders, ensuring they are well-fed and energized. The hope is that with sustenance and determination, answers will be found, and the children will be located safe and sound.
As the search continues, I urge anyone with information about Lily and Jack to come forward and contact the Pictou County District RCMP. The entire community remains hopeful for a positive resolution and the safe return of the missing children.
