Halifax Police Confirm Death of Man in Dartmouth as Homicide

Halifax police have officially declared the death of a man in Dartmouth early Sunday morning as a homicide. The incident occurred near Lahey Road and Clarence Street, where multiple gunshots were reported just before 3 a.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered two individuals, a 30-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman, both suffering from gunshot wounds. They were promptly transported to the hospital for treatment. While the woman’s injuries were deemed non-life-threatening, tragically, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The deceased man has been identified as Isaac Downey by his family members on social media. To support his young family, a GoFundMe page has been established to raise funds. The page describes Downey as a devoted partner and father to twin daughters, who meant the world to him.

Const. Martin Cromwell, spokesperson for Halifax police, revealed that the provincial medical examiner service has determined the man’s cause of death to be a homicide. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection to the case.

Authorities have stated that there is currently no evidence to suggest that the incident was related to intimate partner violence. However, they are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.

For more details or to provide information, individuals are encouraged to reach out to the Halifax police. The community is urged to cooperate with authorities in order to bring justice to the victim and his grieving family.
