Flight attendants overwhelmingly vote against Air Canada wage offer

Air Canada Flight Attendants Reject Latest Wage Offer

After a month-long strike, Air Canada flight attendants have voted against the airline’s latest wage offer, according to their union, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

The tentative deal, which brought an end to the strike, included a 12 per cent salary increase for junior flight attendants and an eight per cent raise for more senior members this year. However, the majority of flight attendants felt that these increases were insufficient, with 99.1 per cent of members rejecting the proposal.

One of the main concerns raised by the flight attendants was that even with the proposed raises, they would still be earning less than the federal minimum wage. As a result, the wage issue will now be taken to mediation and potentially resolved in arbitration, as stated in the CUPE’s statement.

It is clear that there is still work to be done to reach a satisfactory agreement between Air Canada and its flight attendants. The outcome of the mediation and arbitration process remains to be seen, but it is evident that the fight for fair wages continues for these workers.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
