Stefanik excoriates Dem for Elon Musk ‘Nazi salute’ accusation at UN ambassador hearing

Democratic Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy recently questioned New York Rep. Elise Stefanik on allegations that Elon Musk gave a Nazi salute at President Donald Trump’s inaugural parade. During Stefanik’s confirmation process for the role of ambassador to the U.N., Murphy asked her opinion on Musk’s alleged gestures at the rally.

Stefanik denied the claims, stating that she was not present at the rally but emphasized Musk’s support for President Trump and his visionary work in the U.S. space program. She expressed excitement for Musk’s future endeavors in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Following the accusations, Musk dismissed them as a ploy from the left, calling for better tactics from his critics. Despite media outlets accusing him of making a “fascist salute” at the event, Stefanik defended Musk, citing his success as an entrepreneur and the support he receives from the American people.

Murphy persisted in questioning Stefanik, highlighting how various White supremacist and neo-Nazi groups interpreted Musk’s gestures as a Nazi salute. He referenced comments from right-wing personalities and groups celebrating what they believed to be a Nazi salute from Musk at the rally.

Stefanik defended herself and President Trump’s efforts in combating antisemitism, asserting that she intends to bring moral clarity to the role of U.N. ambassador. She emphasized her commitment to condemning antisemitism and upholding Trump’s promises to combat hatred and discrimination.

Murphy stressed the importance of holding individuals from both the right and left accountable for antisemitic behavior. He urged Stefanik to maintain credibility by addressing antisemitism regardless of political affiliation and ensuring a consistent approach in condemning such actions.
