At least 1 dead after bomb damages Palm Springs reproductive center

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) bomb technicians are currently investigating an apparent car bombing near a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California. The incident, which occurred on Saturday morning, resulted in one fatality and at least four injuries.

FBI Los Angeles assistant director Akil David has classified the explosion as an “intentional act of terrorism.” The blast took place near an American Reproductive Centers facility, with officials stating that the attack was targeted. Authorities are still determining whether the incident was an act of international or domestic terrorism, but have noted that it is one of the largest bombing investigations in Southern California since the Aliso Viejo bombing in 2018.

The identity of the deceased individual has not been disclosed, and officials have not confirmed the relationship between the deceased and a person of interest in the case. Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Miles described the crime scene as massive, spanning across multiple blocks. He emphasized that the bombing was an isolated attack and assured the public that Palm Springs would rise stronger from the tragedy.

Social media posts showed businesses in the vicinity with shattered windows and debris strewn about. The American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic confirmed that none of their staff members were harmed, and that the IVF lab and reproductive materials were unharmed. The company expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy and emphasized their commitment to serving the community and creating hope.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Los Angeles is assisting with the investigation, alongside the FBI. The Palm Springs Police Department’s active call log indicated multiple medical responses and reports of burglaries in the area around the time of the explosion.
