Top Trump officials file charges against illegal immigrant set to be released after Fox News report

The Trump administration is taking action after hearing that an illegal immigrant convicted of manslaughter is set to be released early by the California state government. Oscar Eduardo Ortega-Anguiano was responsible for a tragic incident in November 2021 when he was driving drunk, high, and speeding at nearly 100mph on the 405 freeway in Orange County. The crash resulted in the deaths of a young couple, 19-year-old’s Anya Varfolomeev and Nicholay Osokin, who tragically burned alive.
In spring 2022, Ortega-Anguiano was convicted of two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. However, Fox News reported that he is scheduled to be released by the California state government on July 19 after serving just 3.5 years of his 10-year sentence. The families of the victims were informed of the early release on Easter Sunday, sparking outrage and disbelief.
United States Attorney for the Central District of California, Bill Essayli, announced that his office has filed a felony immigration charge against Ortega-Anguiano. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison under 8 USC 1326. Attorney General Pam Bondi also expressed her dismay, emphasizing the need for justice for the victims and their families.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detainer for Ortega-Anguiano’s arrest following his impending release. Despite California’s sanctuary policies, federal authorities are determined to ensure that he faces the consequences of his actions. Tom Homan, border czar, stated that ICE agents would be ready to take custody of Ortega-Anguiano if the state fails to honor the detainer.
The families of Anya Varfolomeev and Nicholay Osokin are pleading with the state to keep Ortega-Anguiano behind bars. They expressed their disbelief and outrage at the prospect of his early release, calling it “disgusting” and a betrayal of justice. The fathers of the victims, Anatoly Varfolomeev and Pavel Osokin, are adamant that Ortega-Anguiano should remain in prison for the full extent of his sentence.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Ortega-Anguiano’s release, the families of the victims are determined to seek justice for their lost loved ones. They are hopeful that the federal charges filed by the Trump administration will ensure that Ortega-Anguiano faces the consequences of his actions. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of upholding the law and holding individuals accountable for their crimes.
