Recount confirms narrow Liberal victory in Milton East-Halton Hills South

Liberal Kristina Tesser Derksen’s victory in the federal Ontario riding of Milton East-Halton Hills South has been confirmed by a judicial recount. The recount saw the margin narrow from 29 votes to 21, solidifying Tesser Derksen’s win over Conservative Parm Gill.

Elections Canada ordered the recount after the initial vote validation process showed Tesser Derksen winning the riding by a slim margin. A judicial recount is automatically triggered when the top two candidates are separated by less than 0.1% of the valid votes cast.

Parm Gill had initially been declared the winner on election night, but the results were overturned in favor of Tesser Derksen after validation by Elections Canada. This victory leaves the Liberals just two seats away from a majority government, with 170 MPs.

In a correction to the initial report, it was clarified that the Liberals now hold 170 seats, not 169 as previously stated.

The victory marks a significant moment for Tesser Derksen and the Liberal Party, solidifying their position in the Ontario riding and inching them closer to a majority government. The recount process highlights the importance of ensuring the accuracy and integrity of election results, ultimately leading to a fair and transparent outcome for all parties involved.
