Illegal immigrant sexually abused child in the U.S. after being removed from the country 5 times

On August 28, 2023, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in New York arrested a Mexican-born illegal immigrant named Raymond Rojas Basilio for sexually abusing an 11-year-old child in the United States. This criminal immigrant had been removed from the country five times previously and had re-entered without admission by an immigration official.

After his arrest by the New York Police Department, Rojas was convicted by the Kings County Supreme Court in Brooklyn on September 20, 2024, for forcible touching of the child’s intimate parts. He was sentenced to 60 days of incarceration, six years of probation, and required to register as a sex offender.

Rojas’ criminal history includes multiple attempts to unlawfully enter the U.S. In May 2002, U.S. Border Patrol arrested him near Douglas, Arizona, on three separate occasions. He was caught again on January 6, 2012, at the Dennis DeConcini Port of Entry in Nogales, Arizona, trying to use fake documents to enter the country. Just five days later, he was removed once more for using fraudulent documents at another port of entry in Nogales.

New York ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations agents apprehended Rojas outside his residence in Queens on December 17, 2023. Despite the challenges posed by local non-cooperation policies, ICE successfully took custody of Rojas to prevent further harm to the community.

Kenneth Genalo, the New York ICE Field Office Director, emphasized the importance of enforcing immigration laws to protect citizens. He stated that Rojas’ repeated attempts to enter the country unlawfully posed a significant threat to public safety. Rojas is currently in ICE custody awaiting removal to Mexico.
