China warns it’s ready for any ‘type of war’ with US over Trump tariffs

China has made it clear that it will not back down in the face of President Donald Trump’s tariffs, declaring that it is prepared to engage in any type of battle with the U.S. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China issued a statement on Tuesday in response to the increased tariffs imposed by Trump, raising them from 10% to 20% due to Beijing’s alleged failure to address the influx of fentanyl into the United States.

Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized in the statement that China is ready to “fight till the end” if the U.S. chooses to escalate the situation further. In retaliation to the tariffs, China has already imposed a 15% tariff on American agricultural products. Jian dismissed the fentanyl issue as a mere excuse for raising tariffs on Chinese imports, stating that intimidation and bullying tactics will not be effective against China.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington quoted Jian as saying, “Pressuring, coercion, or threats are not the right way of dealing with China. Anyone using maximum pressure on China is picking the wrong guy and miscalculating.” The tariffs on China came into effect on Tuesday, with Trump citing the country’s failure to stem the flow of synthetic opioids as a threat to national security, foreign policy, and the economy of the United States.

Despite the accusations, China asserted that the responsibility for the fentanyl crisis lies solely with the U.S. However, China expressed willingness to cooperate in addressing the issue if treated as an equal partner in discussions. The Chinese government has consistently opposed the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, which also includes 25% tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico that went into effect on the same day.

During his address before a joint session of Congress, Trump acknowledged the disruptions caused by the tariffs but reiterated his commitment to making America “rich” and “great again.” The administration’s stance on trade has sparked tensions with several countries, with China warning that it is prepared for any form of confrontation with the U.S.

In conclusion, the ongoing trade dispute between the U.S. and China continues to escalate, with both sides unwilling to back down. The implications of these tariffs extend beyond economic considerations, impacting diplomatic relations and global trade dynamics. The situation remains fluid, with the potential for further escalation or diplomatic resolution in the coming days.
