Guns seized, five arrested following overnight search at North Preston home

NORTH PRESTON, N.S. — RCMP and Halifax Regional Police uncovered a cache of weapons and arrested five people — three women and two men — early Thursday morning in North Preston.

Officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Clarence Street at 3:40 a.m. as part of an ongoing firearms investigation.



Weymouth’s Casey Anne Fitzgerald, 29, and North Preason’s Doreze Marvin Beals, 27 and Jermaine Roshawn Tynes, 27, face combined charges of:

  • Careless storage of a firearm (six counts);
  • Careless use of a firearm (six counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (six counts);
  • Unauthorized possession of prohibited weapon or restricted weapon (three counts);
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized (six counts);
  • Possession of prohibited weapon, device or ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized (three counts);
  • Possession of prohibited a restricted firearm with ammunition (four counts)
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by the commission of an offence (six counts)
  • Laundering proceeds of crime

Fitzgerald, also charged with two counts of failing to comply with the conditions of her release, is due back in court on Oct. 26.

Beals and Tyne, meanwhile, are expected in provincial court today.

The other two North Preston women who were arrested, ages 47 and 69, were later released and are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Nov. 20. Details of their charges were not provided.
