Honduran ‘Most Wanted’ fugitive arrested in NY after fleeing sentence

An illegal alien who was on the “Top 10 Most Wanted” list in Honduras has been apprehended in New York after evading a 44-year prison sentence in his home country. Olivin Martinez Coto, who had been convicted of aggravated femicide, attempted homicide, and forcible home invasion in Honduras, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Long Island.
ICE revealed that Coto had been deported from the U.S. twice before and had never entered the country legally. Despite this, he managed to sneak back in after his second removal in February 2019. ICE emphasized that the United States is not a safe haven for criminal aliens and will continue to pursue, arrest, and deport international fugitives like Coto.
President Donald Trump’s efforts to crack down on criminal illegal aliens have led to a significant decrease in illegal entries and daily encounters at the border. Tom Homan, the White House border czar, reported that border apprehensions in June were at an all-time low, with only 6,070 encounters for the entire month. This stark contrast to the numbers under the Biden administration highlights what Homan called “the Trump effect” on border security.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that only 8,039 apprehensions occurred nationwide in June, a drastic drop from previous months. Homan pointed out that none of the individuals apprehended were released into the U.S., underscoring the success of Trump’s border security policies. The enforcement efforts by Border Patrol and ICE have played a crucial role in driving down illegal immigration and maintaining a secure border.
The Trump administration’s tough stance on illegal immigration has had a significant impact on border security, leading to record-low numbers of border crossings and apprehensions. The dedication and hard work of law enforcement agencies like Border Patrol and ICE have helped create a safer and more secure border environment. With continued vigilance and enforcement, the U.S. aims to deter criminal activity and maintain the integrity of its immigration laws.
