Hamilton clergy in Rome mourn death of Pope Francis and say ‘we must carry forward’ his legacy

The passing of Pope Francis has left a profound impact on the global Catholic community, including in the Diocese of Hamilton. Approximately 29% of Hamilton’s population identifies as Catholic, making it the largest religious group in the city. Seminarian Matteo Villela, studying in Spain, highlighted the universal impact of Pope Francis’s papacy on young Catholics. He emphasized the Pope’s personal connection and pastoral care, which have shaped the way many approach priesthood. Villela also acknowledged the reforms implemented under Pope Francis that have influenced seminary formation guidelines.
