Former presidential hopeful Marianne Williamson announces bid for DNC chair, looks to ‘reinvent the party’

Former presidential candidate Marianne Williamson has thrown her hat into the ring to become the next Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair. In a letter to DNC members on her Transform with Marianne Williamson website, she promised to “reinvent the party” if selected as chair.
Williamson also issued a warning not to underestimate the political achievements of President-elect Trump. She acknowledged that Trump has created a new era of political theater that has mobilized a significant number of supporters. She emphasized the importance of understanding the emotional and psychological appeal of Trump’s movement in order to effectively counter it.
“We need to create a surge of patriotic fervor and connect the American heart to the great historical legacy of this country. Our success lies in convincing people that voting for Democrats is the smartest way to further that legacy,” Williamson stated.
As an author and spiritual/political activist, Williamson previously ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in the 2020 and 2024 election cycles but struggled to gain momentum. Despite dropping out of the race in early 2020 and suspending her campaign in February 2024, she remains committed to making a difference within the party.
Several other candidates have also thrown their hats into the ring for the DNC chair role, including former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. O’Malley, who most recently served as the Social Security Administration commissioner, is expected to face stiff competition in the race.
The Democratic Party is facing a critical juncture, with the need to revitalize and redefine its platform in order to attract voters and secure victories in future elections. The upcoming selection of a new DNC chair will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s direction and strategy moving forward.
