Florida congressman denies wrongdoing in investigation for alleged assault

Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., is at the center of an investigation following an alleged assault in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, as first reported by Fox News. The incident, which took place inside his residence on the 1300 block of Maryland Avenue, Southwest, prompted a response from the Washington Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) around 1:15 p.m.
The MPD confirmed that they are actively investigating the matter but did not disclose any further details regarding the assault. Despite the ongoing investigation, Mills has vehemently denied any wrongdoing through a statement released by his spokesperson to Fox News Digital. The spokesperson emphasized that the Congressman is confident that the investigation will swiftly clear his name.
In response to the incident, MPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau is conducting a review to ensure that all proper procedures were followed during the initial response. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser addressed the situation during a press briefing, confirming that an internal investigation is underway to ensure compliance with MPD policies.
Mills, a decorated former Army combat veteran and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Intelligence, has been representing Florida’s 7th District since January 2023. He also sits on the House’s Armed Services Committee and has a history of military service, including deployment to Iraq in 2003, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his actions.
As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact Mills’ political career and standing within the Republican party. Fox News will continue to provide updates on this developing story.
